Sawm or fasting is fourth pillar of Islam. Every year in the month of Ramadan Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. During fasting, you must avoid eating, drinking, and sexual relations with your spouse.
“O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was for those before you. so perhaps you will become mindful of Allah”
[Surah Al-Baqrah 2:183]
Fasting purifies the soul and helps us to fight against evils on normal days. Feelings of thirst and hunger also strengthen our emotion of helping others. the people who keep fasts will get great reward. As Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
“It was narrated from ‘Ali bin Abi Talib that the Messenger of Allah said:
Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, says: ‘Fasting is for me and I shall reward for it. The fasting person has two moments of joy: When he breaks his fast and when he meets his Lord.’
By the One in whose hand is my soul, the smell that comes from the mouth of the fasting person is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk’.”
